Can I use the same type of speakers for front and rear set up in a 5.1 sound system?
I am looking to put together a good 5.1 surround system I would like to buy 4 Monster Cable StreamLine Tower 100 Speakers. 2 for front and 2 for rear. Can I use the same type of speakers for rear and front? And do you think paying about $400 for the 4 speakers is a good deal?

Yes you can use the same speakers for front and surround especially in an entry level system like this. More advanced systems usually optimize the speaker choice for the particular job however.
I'm not sure what the Monster speakers are worth or if you are looking at a good deal for them. Monster is not a highly respected name in audio and has been known to practice deceptive marketing regarding their cables.
Definitely stay away from Bose, they're just a big joke. No one serious about audio would consider Bose even to enable AOL to say, "you've got mail" much less any more important audio application.
If you want to save money I would suggest avoiding all commercially built speaker products and go for a kit http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-640 Something like this will get you the best sound for the money.
