Is $1100.oo a good price for a trek 5500 full Dura ace 4 years old?
This bike has appx. 8000 miles on it.
That's a bit high for that bike. If it was in great shape with no cosmetic damage to the frame, and a new cassette, chain, and brake pads, $1000 might be reasonable, but no more.
If the frame/ fork is pretty much flawless, but the bike looks used but everything works, maybe $750?
If you see any damage to the frame or fork that goes deeper than the paint, don't buy it...period.
If it has been crashed, don't buy it...period.
Don't buy it unless you can fully inspect it first.
Don't buy it from someone you don't know, or at least someone that one of your best friends can vouch for.
Carbon does not handle impact very well and you could be looking at a catastrophic failure if the guy selling it 'forgot to mention' that crash last fall, even if it didn't damage the frame.
If you're prepared to spend $1100 on a bike, I would go for something new, maybe a bit lower end for a few more bucks. You'll get the same performance with out the risk.
BTW - 8000 miles on a 4 year old bike of that level is nothing. As long as the bike has been maintained and not crashed it's probably fine. Actually, on a bike of that level, I would consider 5000 miles in _one_ year to be pretty average.
