It's going to depend almost entirely on what fork you're talking about. Some forks dont even use sealed damping cartridges so you'd be revalving the shim stack and replacing seals to restore functionality. Without knowing exactly what fork you ride, it's tough to give you a very accurate idea of what it'll cost. Also, are we talking about repairing a fork or upgrading one? Keep in mind, repairs are also going to include the cost of anything that's broken aside from the cartridge unit itself as well.
In general, you can figure on a fork service running you between $40-$100 depending on the shop and just how much needs to be done in terms of replacing disposables within the fork.
Changing the compression cartridge isnt always even possible and, even when it is, it's not usually a cheap option. As a starting point for replacing a damping cartridge, figure on it being over $100 easily. I had the damping cartridge in my '09 888 RC3 WC slated to be replaced by CR1 Engineering and it's running me just shy of $600 USD... Granted, that's really more of an upgrade than a straight replacement or repair but I think you get the idea... anytime they start opening up your suspension components, it can get pretty pricey pretty quickly.
